2020 Dare To Be Powerful
Dare To Be A Girl invited all middle & high school aged girls for our annual Dare To Be Powerful Saturday, September 26th from 12:00 to 3:00pm. The free empowerment webinar gave girls the tools needed to become agents of change in their community.
“This project promotes civic responsibility, community leaders guiding young girls to uplift their voice, independence, and personal development, ”said Rhodena Mesadieu, CEO and Founder of Dare to Be a Girl.
During the event, girls heard from future leaders that represent them in the community like 18-year-old youth organizer, author, and filmmaker, Chanice Lee. Once the girls learned about leadership and civic responsibility, they created leadership kits that were be distributed to residents in Riviera Beach (zip codes 33404,33401 and 33407).
The leadership kits focused on different chosen social issues. “We ideally would like to target areas of wellness, leadership, or social justice,” Mesadieu said. “For example, a wellness box will include items that girls can use to improve their emotional health.”
Studies show girls who have an opportunity to practice leadership development skills are more likely to volunteer themselves for leadership opportunities. Leadership opportunities are linked to gender equity and the wage gap. “Our program promotes girl leadership as a primary focus of our mission in empowering young girls," Mesadieu said.
